Abstract— This manuscript investigates the effects of the semester system on student learning outcomes in state universities. Drawing on a comprehensive review of existing literature and a primary survey of 350 undergraduate students across four state universities, the study examines academic performance, time management, engagement, and satisfaction. Quantitative analyses—including descriptive statistics and inferential tests—reveal that the semester system promotes continuous engagement, timely feedback, and incremental skill development.
However, challenges such as increased assessment load and schedule compression can induce stress and superficial learning approaches. Findings suggest that, while the semester system fosters sustained academic involvement and enhances skill acquisition, institutions must adopt supportive measures—such as balanced assessment design and student time-management workshops—to mitigate potential drawbacks. Implications for curriculum planning, pedagogy, and policy are discussed.
